CLASSICISM
Pots function not only in a utilitarian fashion but also as a connection between different peoples, cultures, and ideas across time and geography for thousands of years. Within this context, the idea of the "Decorative Arts" slowly develops out of Classical and Medieval concepts of art as activities devoted to the creation of beauty. John Ruskin in his Seven Lamps of Architecture always firmly maintained that true beauty in both the fine and decorative arts could emerge only from the creative imagination of a maker inspired by nature. The art objects in this series are therefore in their own way strategies of inquiry, as well as engagements with beauty on a more visceral level.
