THE GAZE
To quote Jacque Derrida: "The world view is one that esteems presence over absence, icon over nonexistence, wholes over holes." An insightful observation that promotes the belief that there is really no difference between the observer and what is being observed, between the act of observing the world, and the idea that we are the world, between our presence and the presence of the artwork. This is the nature of sculpture that illustrates how man's sense of space--in all its forms and extensions--is closely related to our sense of self.
