Pablo Picasso created cubist sculptures as well as paintings in his long career. He made constructions such as a Mandolin and Clarinet from mixed media materials in which he explored the spatial hypotheses of cubist painting. This sculpture originated with the image and form of a guitar that became a three dimensional cubic pattern when the pieces were reconstructed and put back together. The form was then bound by four black lines that originate from the point of contact of the black cube placed at the apex.
